<p align="left">The Independence Farmers’ Market offers locally grown produce, baked goods,<br />
crafts, flowers, bedding plants, and herbs.  The purpose of the market is to connect customers directly with the person who grew the products in a fun, casual environment.</p>

<p align="left">Independence Farmers’ Market Guidelines:</p>
<ul>
<li>Sales begin promptly at the signal at 8:00am. No early birds.</li>
<li>Produce must be grown by the vendor and crafts  made by the vendor.   Vendors may also be employees of the grower.</li>
<li>NO AUCTION items are allowed nor is buying from a source and reselling.</li>
<li>Cost of seasonal permits is $30.</li>
<li>Cost of a one-day vending fee is $10.</li>
<li>The market stresses cooperation, not competition. We exist for the benefit of the vendors and the customers. It is a community market.  Disputes are to be resolved respectfully</li>
<li>Vendors are responsible for getting their own WIC and Senior coupon permits and other applicable permits.</li>
<li>Rules for labeling the ingredients of jams, jellies, and baked goods apply.</li>
<li>If you have questions about market rules, talk to the market coordinators.</li>
<li>Smoking is forbidden on all city property</li>

<p style="text-align: center;">HELP IS NEEDED TO ‘ROOF THE MILL’</p>
<p style="text-align: center;" align="left">“West Side Story” continues to raise funds to finish roofing the historic Wapsipinicon Mill in Independence.  As part of the ongoing effort, Buchanan Co. historical Society is making a patriotic colored quilt to be raffled off this fall.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;" align="left">According to Judy Scott, “All fiber artists are invited to help with this project.  Pre-cut Plain Old Nine Patch blocks, with directions, have been put into kits.  This is a very simple straight stitched block that anyone who can sew a straight seam could do”.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;" align="left">Kits are available at Quilters Quarters or by calling Judy Scott 334-3700 or Ruth Duritsa 334-7325.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>With the sun shining and the weather slowly starting to warm up, the Independence Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing for community-wide summer activities. “Friday Night Live @ 5” will make its return this summer to Riverwalk Parks on May 3, June 7, and August 2 of 2013 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. With the help of many sponsors, the IACC is able to host these low-cost, family-friendly events for not only Independence residents but for surrounding areas and communities alike. May 3rd will feature the theme of “Cinco de Mayo” with entertainment provided by “New Trick,” June 7th will feature the theme of “Rumble on the River” with entertainment provided by “Ernest T,” and this summer series will close on August 2nd, with the theme of “Back to School Rodeo,” featuring the music of “Stampede.” With food and drink available, it is requested that no coolers are allowed within the park and to also refrain from bringing pets. The events will feature many activities and entertainment for the entire family to enjoy, including Absolutely Indee Bag Tournaments, face painting, festive ware, and games to name a few!
