OBOI: Historic Architecture of Independence
Learn about the historic architecture of our community as part of the One Book One Independence (OBOI) programming at the Independence Public Library. The OBOI 2017 book selection Arrowood, by Laura McHugh, features ornate and grand historical houses that line the Mississippi River in southern Iowa. Bill Reedy will guide the audience through an exploration of architectural styles from the mid- to late-19th century that can be found in historic homes and buildings here in Independence. The multi-media presentation will feature examples of Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Tuscan Villa, Early and Late Italianate, Queen Anne, and Second Empire styles. Free and open to the public, the program begins at 6:30 pm in the Community Room.
